Never forget that using your mobile phone for any purposes and in any way while driving is illegal and dangerous. Rage responsibly. Don't make the problem of bad driving worse by typing an sms on the move. Stop - Breathe - SMS.- Alternatively, if you can't pull over or are in too much of a hurry, hand your mobile to a passenger to do the raging for you.
- Rage only against genuine offenders - misusing Rager for amusement or to hassle somebody will undermine what we're trying to do together here.
- Rage immediately! The whole point of the exercise is to manage the anger and frustration that rises in us when some fool drives like a baboon on tik at our expense. You need to know you can do something about it there and then, not later when you've burst the capillary already. You can always go online later and add detail to the rage report if you want to.
- Rage accurately. Raging against the wrong registration number is not a train smash but it does make things a bit messy. Besides, do you really want to ding some innocent for the sins of a beast?
- If your rage goes two-way, i.e. the driver you're raging against is registered and responds to you (anonymously, through the site), be calm and rational about it. One would hope that the driver is responding to apologise for offending you but it is just as possible that their barbaric behaviour will hang around like their BO. You have the choice at that point to demonstrate emotional maturity and restraint and beat the rage altogether, or to descend into a mobile flame war with the moron. Choose wisely.
- It is a myth that you have to get rid of stress by blowing your top. The truth is exactly opposite. Self control and self-possession when everyone else is losing it does far more for you in terms of managing stress and its effects on you than the sheer self-indulgence of rage. If your fellow-travellers decide to demean themselves with displays of fury, let it be their problem - not yours. Your self-restraint and consideration for even bad-mannered motorists will not only do wonders for your own well-being but it will spill over into the traffic around you and do much to defuse situations that otherwise might escalate into something ugly. Try it.
- Raging is about stress management in a fun and relaxing way, with useful benefits to the community - not about vengeance and malice. Relax, have fun. Leave the coronaries to those who deserve them.
